Trained exclusively for Gary Biszantz’ Cobra Farm, a job he took on in 1996, until going public in November 2002 … Winner of four stakes at Del Mar: 1995 Grade III Balboa (now Best Pal) with Cobra King, 1995 Escondido with Varadavour, 1996 Kobuk King with Draco and 1998 Grade II Del Mar Breeders’ Cup Handicap with Old Trieste … Old Trieste, the pacesetter in the 1998 Kentucky Derby, also won the Affirmed and Swaps during his 3-year-old campaign, then came back from a nine-month layoff to smartly capture Hollywood’s The Californian to start off his 4-year-old year … Highlight of 2004 was the victory by his Trieste’s Honor, a son of Old Trieste, in the California Derby at Bay Meadows … Got to know Bizsantz while working as an assistant to the late Walter Greenman, who was at that time Biszantz’ major conditioner and sometimes partner in ownership … Trained horses for Biszantz both on the West Coast and in Kentucky … Began training horses in 1986 in Phoenix, where he started working on the backside at Turf Paradise after finishing high school … First Grade I victory came at Hollywood Park in 1996 when Running Flame won the Hollywood Turf Cup over Marlin and Talloires … Saddled Lord Grillo to defeat Kentucky Derby winner Silver Charm in the 1997 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita … Has also won stakes with Star of Goshen, Point Proven, Praviana and Fontal … Single.
