Eoin Harty is a fifth-generation horseman from Ireland who migrated to the U.S. in 1979. After working stud farms in Kentucky, he moved to California where he spent fourteen years as an assistant trainer with John Russell and Bob Baffert. He earned acclaim while working as Baffert’s top assistant, helping craft the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winning campaigns of Silver Charm and Real Quiet. Harty made his training debut in 2000 with Godolphin Stables, developing eventual Dubai world cup winner Street Cry (IRE), and 2001 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Champion, Tempera. Other noted trainees include E Dubai, Ruler’s Court, Imperial Gesture, Essence of Dubai, Tizdubai, Zosima, Sunray Spirit, and Jilbab. Harty currently trains for Darley Stable on the East Coast as well as a number of clients on the West Coast at Santa Anita. His 2005 Stakes winners include Robador, R Fast Lady, Forest Grove, Shamoan and Unification. … Harty has pedigree to have success in training … Father, Eddie, was a rider who won the Grand National and participated in the Olympic Games three-day event … Grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather were trainers … That’s as far as he can trace back, but says he wouldn’t be surprised if the line went even further back … Following a year working at the Irish National Stud, came to the United States at 17 and “never looked back” … Family: wife, Kathleen; one son.
