One of the sport’s top trainers, as was underscored in 2000 when he was voted into racing’s Hall of Fame … Personification of patience with his trainees … Usually registers high percentage of winners and in-the-money finishes as compared to starts each year … In 2000 he deftly handled the high-strung, but high-talent colt Fusaichi Pegasus through a spring campaign that saw him win the Kentucky Derby, then finish second in the Preakness Stakes … Other standouts from the Drysdale barn include A.P. Indy, Horse of the Year in 1992 as a 3-year-old; champions Fiji, Princess Rooney, Hollywood Wildcat and Tasso; and his most well-known runner of the early 1980s, Bold ’n Determined, who entered racing’s Hall of Fame in 1997 … Stakes won by Bold ’n Determined included the Apple Blossom Handicap, Oak Leaf, Kentucky Oaks, Acorn, Coaching Club American Oaks and Spinster … She competed in 1979-1981, prior to the advent of Breeders’ Cup championship day … During his Horse of the Year campaign, A.P. Indy won the Santa Anita Derby, Belmont Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic … He scratched on the morning of the 1992 Kentucky Derby because of a foot problem … Other Breeders’ Cup winners: War Chant (2000 Mile); Prized (1989 Turf); Princess Rooney and Hollywood Wildcat (1984 and 1993 Distaff); and Tasso (1985 Juvenile) … Has won 35 Del Mar stakes, seventh on the all-time list … Storming Home, whom he handled for his longtime client Sheik Maktoum al Maktoum, won two Grade I stakes in 2003 but was the cause of the most bizarre incident in racing during that year. Seemingly on his way to victory in the Arlington Million, Storming Home swerved sharply nearing the wire, causing interference and unseating jockey Gary Stevens. He was disqualified … Among his other major stakes winners are Rahy, Hail Hilarious, Political Ambition, Gorgeous, Miss Brio, Labeeb, Gold Land, Hawksley Hill, Sunshine Street, No Matter What, Touchof theblues, Arabic Song, Dimitrova, Soud and Sarafan … Won Grade I stakes in 2004 with Musical Chimes, John C. Mabee H. at Del Mar, and Splendid Blended, Hollywood Starlet … Splendid Blended also took the 2005 Grade I Vanity Handicap … Enjoyed a successful 2006 (earnings of $4.5 million, l8th nationally) with a stable led by the now-retired Aragorn, winner of two Grade I’s, the Shoemaker B.C. Mile and the Eddie Read Handicap. In the latter victory, the Irish-bred runner set a course record for nine furlongs of 1:44.79. Aragorn also won the 2006 Del Mar B.C. Handicap in a near record 1:32.68 for the mile … Current stable includes stakes-winners Fourty Niners Son, One Off, Obrigado and Fantastic Spain … Well-rounded background with horses includes being a show-horse trainer, managing a breeding farm in Argentina and working four years as an assistant with Hall of Fame trainer Charlie Whittingham before going out on his own in 1975 … Family: wife, Shawn; one daughter.
