ARCADIA, Calif. - Sircat Sally’s unbeaten streak continues, but not without an element of suspense.

Sircat Sally ($2.60) won her seventh race in Saturday’s Grade 2 Honeymoon Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on turf at Santa Anita, holding off a sustained threat from Beau Recall to prevail by a neck. The margin of victory after 1 1/8 miles on turf was the smallest of Sircat Sally’s career.

Mike Smith rode Sircat Sally and said the filly gave him confidence through the final furlong even though the rider felt pressure.

“It wasn’t a draw-away win, but that other horse was going to have to find another gear to go by her,” Smith said.

Sircat Sally was timed in 1:46.92 in the $200,345 Honeymoon.

“I thought Mike rode her beautifully,” trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said. “We got the win and that’s what we wanted. Mike knew what he had underneath her and it was helpful.”

Favored for her sixth consecutive race, Sircat Sally stalked 48-1 outsider Tap It All, who led by as many as four lengths in the first half-mile. Sircat Sally caught Tap It All on the turn, and led into the stretch, holding a one-length advantage with a furlong remaining.

The margin narrowed through the last sixteenth.

“I thought I could hold them off for another 100 yards,” Smith said. “She’s a dream to ride. She gets the job done.”

Beau Recall was second to Sircat Sally in the minor China Doll Stakes in March and the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes on May 6, losing those races by 1 1/4 lengths and 1 1/2 lengths. The Honeymoon was her best race in six starts despite the defeat.

“The winner is super tough,” said Simon Callaghan, who trains Beau Recall. “Both fillies really laid it down. Our filly really tried.”

Pacific Wind finished a troubled third, beaten 1 1/2 lengths. Ridden by Jamie Theriot, Pacific Wind was checked with a little more than three furlongs remaining and recovered to race well through the stretch.

Zaffinah finished fourth, followed by La Force and Tap It All.

Pacific Wind was third in the Senorita Stakes.

Sircat Sally has earned $528,860 for owner and breeder Joe Turner. A California-bred by Surf Cat, Sircat Sally has won six stakes – two for California-breds last fall and winter, and three consecutive graded stakes on turf at Santa Anita this year.

The Honeymoon Stakes was the most prestigious win of her career. Sircat Sally won the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf in early April.

Hollendorfer said Sircat Sally will race at Del Mar this summer. The track holds two graded stakes for 3-year-old fillies on turf – the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes at a mile on July 23 and the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks at 1 1/8 miles on Aug. 19.
