Paradise Woods gets rest after disappointing Kentucky Oaks
Monday, May 15th, 2017
ARCADIA, Calif. – Paradise Woods will be given a brief rest at a local farm after undergoing tests that showed she has no injuries following an 11th-place finish in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on May 5.
Trainer Richard Mandella said Sunday that he has no race plans for Paradise Woods, who jumped to the fore of the 3-year-old filly division with an authoritative win in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks on April 8.
“We’ll give her a chance to settle down for a little bit,” Mandella said. “I owe it to her after what she’s done.
“I’ll send her out for a couple of weeks. She came along so fast, we’ll let her catch up a bit.”
In the Kentucky Oaks, Paradise Woods was the 6-5 favorite. She led to the turn before fading to finish 20 1/2 lengths behind Abel Tasman.
Owned by Marty and Pam Wygod and Steve Sarkowsky, Paradise Woods has won two of four starts and earned $293,200. The Santa Anita Oaks was the filly’s stakes debut.
