OWNED & BRED BY GEORGE SCHWARY, TALENTED FILLY BECOME’S DAM’S 2ND STAKES WINNER

ARCADIA, Calif. (Dec. 31, 2017)–A maiden winner going one mile on turf Nov. 25, George and Martha Schwary’s home-bred Ippodamia’s Girl overhauled well-meant pacesetter Silken Spy a sixteenth of a mile from home and then held off a furious late rally from One Fast Broad to take 2017’s final stakes race, the $75,000 Blue Norther Stakes, by one half length.  Trained by Mike Puype, Ippodamia’s Girl, a 2-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Stormy Atlantic, got a flat mile over the Santa Anita turf in 1:35.93.

With a field of 11 juvenile fillies engaged, there was plenty of pace on going into the first turn, with Joe Talamo and Silken Spy dictating terms through splits of 23.07, 47.58, 1:12.16 and 1:24.16.  Turning for home, Talamo opened up a half length, but the winner was relentless in her pursuit and wouldn’t be denied.

Off at 4-1, Ippodamia’s Girl paid $10.60, $5.20 and $4.00.

Out of the Schwary’s Peterhof mare Ippodamia, the winner is a half sister to Schwary’s outstanding multiple graded stakes winning Georgie Boy and is the second stakes winner produced by the dame.  Ippodamia’s Girl now has two wins and as many seconds from five starts and with the winner’s share of $46,980, she ends the year with earnings of $96,525.

“It’s nice to get this win,” said George Schwary.  “I have to thank Mike (Puype).  He saw something in her and here she is.  I’ve been waiting for this a long time.  She’s Georgie Boy’s half sister, so hopefully we’ll go places with her and I think we will.”

Last a half mile from home under Gary Stevens, One Fast Broad flew late to out-finish Silken Spy by a half length.  The 2-1 second choice, One Fast Broad paid $4.00 and $3.20.

Off at 12-1, Silken Spy finished 2 ¼ lengths in front of Finess Bere and paid $6.60 to show.

First post time for a nine-race card on Monday is at 12:30 p.m.  Admission gates open at 10:30 a.m.  For additional information, please visit www.santaanita.com.
